エクリプス賞

エクリプス賞(Eclipse Award)とはアメリカ合衆国の競馬の年度代表表彰である。その年に活躍した人や馬を全米サラブレッド競馬協会(NTRA)の役員、全米競馬記者協会、デイリーレーシングフォーム紙の記者による投票によって選出、表彰する。

1970年まではデイリーレーシングフォームなどのアメリカ競馬で権威あるとされる団体がそれぞれ独自に年度代表馬などを選定していたのだが、1971年にそれを統一する形で発足した。18世紀のイギリスの競走馬・エクリプスに因んでいる。

この他に、傑出した実績を残したり貢献をした者に贈られる特別賞(Eclipse Special Award)、生涯を通じてアメリカ競馬に功績を残した者に贈られる功労賞(Eclipse Award Of Merit)、全米サラブレッド競馬協会のホームページでその年一番印象に残った競走を集計しエクリプス賞と同時に発表するモーメントオブザイヤー(National Thoroughbred Racing Association Moment of the Year)がある。
